Can go Almost Anywhere
You will find that most portable grills require you carrying them to where you want them to be. This is not the case with the Coleman Roadtrip 285 Stand-up grill. It weighs about 47 pounds which sounds heavy but since it is on wheels it is a breeze to change locations with it. It is great for use on a patio or you can use it when you go tailgating.
- Easy to Assemble
- It only takes a few minutes with a limited number of tools to have your Roadtrip 285 up and going.
- Cooks Several Items at Once and Has Room for More
- You can cook your favorite foods quickly and easily with the Roadtrip 285. The 285 square inches of cooking space gives you ample room for cooking for a few or for a crowd.
- Great for Tailgating and Camping
- With the ease of folding the grill down to transport you not only save space in your vehicle but you can just pull it like a suitcase over most terrain with ease.
- Lid Lock
- The lid lock can come unlatched when moving it to your tailgating or camping area. You need to check it to ensure it stays locked.
- Side Handles Are Weak
- The side handles are riveted on but do not provide much support. Rivets appear to be too short.
- Difficult to Clean
- Taking the water tray out to clean can be difficult if you are not used to cleaning a water tray that collects grease from grilling.
People Often Buy a Griddle For Easier Cooking
The Coleman RoadTrip Swaptop griddle is an excellent addon to enhance your grilling experience. Using this griddle gives you the opportunity to have breakfast when on a camping trip. It gives you the opportunity cook vegetables that you would ordinarily not prepare. One example is mushrooms and onions to go with your steaks. Another example would be to grill jalapenos stuffed with cheese.

Thoughts on the Coleman Roadtrip 285 Stand-up Propane Grill
After reviewing the Coleman Roadtrip 285 grill, I find that for the money and the ease of use this is an excellent grill for tailgating, camping and home use. The one pound gas cylinder that is used most often is certainly handy for tailgating and camping.
You will have hours of cooking time with it. If you want to have a longer time cooking, for example, if you are having an occasion where you are grilling for a large gathering then the hose and adapter will be the way to go.
Either way the ease of use and portability of the Roadtrip 285 is an excellent buy. You can grill for short or long times and move your grill to the location you want easily. The weight may be a bit heavy for some but by paying attention to your path it should not be any more of a concern than it would be pulling a suitcase while travelling.
I watched my younger brother use one of the Roadtrip 285 grills for several years and he never had any complaints with it. I have used this particular model myself and found it to be easy to use and very versatile.
This grill is great for grilling at home or taking on a camping trip. If camping is not for you then you can also take it to a park for that special time away from home but wanting to grill for friends and family.
