This website describes perfectly the positive aspects of a portable wood pellet stove. It’s great for cooking at home. You have lots of choices in size to take with you camping.  Describing the negative aspects in a positive light is really good.  The site is very good in describing how the stove can be used in various ways. It’s really cool how you can have the stove working to smoke meat for dinner after having cooked your lunch. And the fact that you can change the flavouring simply by changing the flavour of the wood pellets is pretty neat. I learned a lot from this website. I think it’s a good one.

I recently purchased a portable wood pellet grill and I have to say, it has completely changed my outdoor cooking game. The flavor that the wood pellets impart on the food is unmatched and it’s so convenient to use, whether I’m camping or just grilling in my backyard. However, I’m curious about the different types of wood pellets available and how they affect the overall taste of the food. Do you have any recommendations for which pellets to use with certain types of meat?

      Akumendoh,

I am sure you found your new portable pellet grill to be a game-changer. You can check with your local market for different flavored pellets. If they do not have them, you can order them through Amazon. Amazon has a large variety of flavored wood pellets.

For myself and my family, I have found we prefer apple wood pellets with pork, with chicken we use apple or pecan, for a heavier smoke flavor we use hickory or mesquite. You will find that it really depends upon your personal taste.

      Happy Grilling,

I have always wondered about pellet grills but I have never bought or used one before. My neighbor uses one all the time and it smells so good, I have wanted to look into getting myself one.  I was unaware that you could purchase smaller units, something like that would definitely be a great addition to anyone’s camping gear, or for a day trip to the lake.  I like that you can use a pellet grill for everything your gas or charcoal grill will do and much more while adding flavor.

    Have a great day

I can feel your passion for these awesome cooking machines and really enjoyed the article.

I own a portable propane grill that my old lady and I have gotten much use out of for the last few years cooking pork chops, veggies and steaks but would love to upgrade to the pellet style.

Do you think the pellet grill is worth the while in order to impart the real wood smoke flavor into all the meats and food that I grill?

    Hi Jerry,

Thanks for a very helpful article.  My family and I are planning a camping trip this summer, and are looking forward to being able to enjoy the taste of grilled food.  Normally we have a location reserved that gives us access to a fire pit, however, we don’t have that available this year.  This is why we need to look into a portable wood pellet grill.  One that is lightweight with a good size cooking surface is our top priority.  Do you have a grill that you recommend?

This is my first-time learning about the portable wood pellet grill. It seems very convenient and simple to use, something I do think any dedicated camper should have in their camping gear. It would be interesting to taste how different recipe flavors result when testing out different wood pellet flavors on them.

I do wonder though, in case of not having access to any power for longer periods of time, would a Jackery Explorer 500 be sufficient to power this portable wood pellet grill? Also, are there portable wood pellet grills that come with their own gadgets to power themselves with solar energy instead?

    1. Jerry McCoy Avatar
      Jerry McCoy

      Ruachal,

Wood pellet grills are very easy to use and the different flavored wood pellets can change what you prefer as your flavor profile. Some people like semi-sweet while others like smokey. Some pellet grills come with a battery that can last up to 15 hours. This is more than enough time to grill or smoke your food. I have not heard of a pellet grill using solar energy. That may be in the future.
